Introduced in 1958, basically a wider track A35 dressed up in a smart Italian suit. Antiquated semi-hydraulic brakes and pull down windows retained until the Mk.2 arrived in 1962. SU carb replaced Zenith and slightly increased power from 948cc engine. Bigger 1098cc motor from 1963, higher gearing providing 80mph. Strong competition from BMC’s own Mini, 1100 range and venerable Morris Minor saw the last of 340,000 roll off the assembly line in 1967. A Countryman version featured a lift up rear window which sealed against the drop down boot lid. Later Italian built Innocenti cars incorporated a modern lift up tailgate, a useful feature never adopted at Longbridge. This Mk.1 is the more common saloon version with simple drop down. boot lid.
Family owned from new, and retains all the original features.
