2024 is the 40th year of the launch of Japan’s first mid-engined sports car, the MR2.
This is a Mk1 factory ‘crossover’ model, so she comes with the later Mk1b bodyshell but earlier Mk1a doorcards and bi-colour seats. The electrics are somewhat unique (which makes fault-finding challenging!) and she has a confusing blend of 1a and 1b fuel injection.
The car was discovered as a ‘barn find’, having been kept off the road for 8 years by its elderly owner. Following a full engine rebuild and numerous other new parts, she’s now mechanically fit. She’s from an era when rust was a constant companion but she’s completely solid and has never been welded.
Presented here in near original condition, she still requires some cosmetic attention to make her paint and fittings perfect, but she’s in great overall condition for a 37 year old car that’s done nearly 120,000 miles.
