Jaguar XK 120 FHC

Vehicle Reg No: GJR 966
Year: 1954

Introduced at the 1948 London motor show the Jaguar XK 120 was developed at very short notice using the engine and running gear intended for the much larger mark 7 saloon. The engine was a 160 horsepower 3.4 liter straight six with an alloy head and double overhead camshafts, a very advanced design for the time. The engine was later uprated and used in Jaguar cars (including the famous ‘E’ type) up until around 1980.
When the XK was introduced in 1948 its 120 MPH top speed made it the fastest production car in the world, a record it held until the introduction of the Mercedes 300 SL in 1954.
This car was manufactured in 1954 and is a rare original right-hand drive version, the vast bulk of production being sold for export to help the balance of payments in cash-strapped post war Britain.
The car was extensively rebuilt between 1993 & 1997, and has had much work done since. The car is fitted with disc brakes at the front and rack-and pinion steering (both modifications built into the later XK 140) these modifications make the car more useable (and safer) for modern driving conditions.
The present owner has had the car for around six years, during which time many repairs and improvements have been completed. There’s always something that needs attention on a seventy-year old car!
