This car was originally built about 6 years ago by the Autobahnstormers club chairman and is featured in a 3 page spread in the club magazine. Its been built using a very high mileage but solid Vauxhall Diplomat body shell and interior and a GSI front bumper was fitted. The running gear and engine came from a very low mileage (approx 17,000) Vauxhall Senator which had a big valve gold top engine. During the build all the parts were either re-furbished or replaced with new. The car features the electronic suspension from the Senator. The digi dash was transferred from the Senator to the Carlton. It was then used for a short spell before minor work was done to the bodywork and it was given a full respray in Ford Millenia blue. I purchased the car about 5 years ago and decided to convert it to full GSI spec.
The first thing I did before I did anything, was to have the car professionally rust treated using Dinitrol products
I obtained a complete interior and fitted it. The headlining, sunroof shade, “A” post and rear parcel shelf have all been recovered. A GSI rear bumper, Irmscher side skirts and rear door mouldings and new body mouldings were obtained’ sprayed and fitted by B.C.C.R. A set of GSI 24valve wheels to go with the larger front brakes was obtained and fitted along with new tyres. The radiator, heater matrix, viscous coupling, magnacor leads and various otherparts have all been replaced with new items. The car has had a custom made stainless exhaust fitted from the downpipe back. More recently, due to a failed hydraulic lifter, a new camshaft, and while it was apart a new timing chain kit has been fitted.
Due to lack of use (still under 21,000 miles I will probably be selling this car soon as I have too many cars.
